Bronze As 27mm (10.88 grams) Struck under Roman Emperor Caligula at the mint of Rome, 37-41 A. Reference: RIC 58 [Caligula], Cohen 3, BMC 161 [Tiberius] M AGRIPPA L F COS III – Head left, wearing rostral crown. Neptune standing, head left, S C at sides. Agrippa was the maternal grandfather of emperor Caligula and he struck this coin to honor him. Was the god of water and the sea in Roman mythology and religion. He is analogous with, but not identical to, the Greek god Poseidon. He was responsible for most of Octavians military victories, most notably winning the naval Battle of Actium against the forces of Mark Antony and Cleopatra VII of Egypt. He was the son-in-law of the Emperor Augustus, maternal grandfather of the Emperor Caligula , father-in-law of the Emperor Tiberius and the Emperor Claudius , and maternal great-grandfather of the Emperor Nero.
